Addiction is Routine on double stetoids

What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

A hallmark of addiction is, it is the first thing you think about when you wake up and it is the first action you take.  There are people who only go to sleep if they have a little bit of their drug to do–that is known as “the wake up.”After they do this little bit, which must be enough to make them feel normal, then they can go about the serious business of getting more.  Acquiring the drug means a number of different things.  With cash in Hand it is all about locating the person who has it and meeting him.  Without cash a person has to do their hustle: prostitution, stealing from stores, if they have an apartment or sturdy tent con enie tly located close to downtown Honolulu/Chinatown, they wait for people to show up and they trade access to the space for the drug.

In order to recover a person has to do something else instead of the drug.  No easy task when all actions are drug related. Even when not using, there’s a ritualized wait in order to use again.  When every single part of the daily routine is related to drugs, it is possible to wish to do something else but no easy task.
