Addiction is cruel because it causes the sufferer to endure catastrophe and it causes others impacted by the catastrophe to believe the addict did not care. Addicts do not think they are putting drugs before their kids. They honestly believe they are not lying to themselves when they plan to do things differently. Promises are made in good faith. The addict is as incredulous as everyone else that the same disaster happened. For example they fully intended to show up for the family function but did not anticipate that it would take so long to find someone with what they needed. There was no going without what they needed so the mission took as long as it took. It was nothing personal.
What exactly makes addiction cruel?
